What 15 yards means
15 cubic yards is 405 cubic feet of loose debris, loaded level with the top rail. Space is rarely what stops a job. Weight is. Your $499 covers 2 tons, which is 4,000 pounds on the landfill scale.
Light, bulky loads like furniture, carpet, and cleanout junk fill the can long before they hit the limit. Dense loads like shingles, tile, concrete, and dirt do the opposite. The cost estimator runs the numbers for your material.
