Ravenel is its own town, with a mayor and council, entirely inside Charleston County. Town Hall handles zoning, code enforcement, and business licenses.1 Several large planned developments have been annexed into Ravenel. Tea Farm, off Old Jacksonboro Road, allows up to 400 homes. Golden Grove, off New Road and Old Jacksonboro Road, allows no more than 381. The Preserve at Ravenel is on Davison Road.2

Street or driveway

Driveway first. It usually needs no permit. Setup tips: dumpster in your driveway.

Inside town limits. Ravenel’s 2023 Code of Ordinances has no section that specifically covers a dumpster or roll-off in a street. Chapter 26, Streets, Sidewalks, and Other Public Property, covers only parades, funeral processions, and a large-truck limit on Old Jacksonboro Road. The town’s instruction: contact the Planning & Zoning Administrator before you start a project to see if a permit is required. That line is (843) 889-8732.3 Not sure your address is inside town limits? Ask on the same call.

State roads. Work inside SCDOT-maintained right-of-way needs an SCDOT encroachment permit. No fee.3 To check your road, SCDOT points you to its free Street Finder at ris.scdot.org or 1-855-GO-SCDOT.4 A route marked S-10-xxx is a state secondary road in Charleston County.5 Steps: SCDOT state road dumpster permits.

Outside town limits. On a county road, ask Charleston County Public Works. It issues encroachment permits for an encroachment in a public right-of-way or easement. The application fee is $35.00, and a representative contacts you within 72 hours of getting the request. Phone (843) 202-7600.6 Steps: Charleston County dumpster permits.

That large-truck limit: trucks with more than two axles are barred from Old Jacksonboro Road between US 17 and New Road. The exception is trucks making deliveries or providing services at a destination inside town limits.7

The permit is yours to get. We do not apply for it.

What the county drop-off will not take

Charleston County, not the town, sets up Ravenel’s garbage service. In May 2023, County Council chose Trident Waste & Recycling as the only vendor for unincorporated Charleston County and the Town of Ravenel. Curbside pickup is optional, by subscription.8

The county’s St. Paul’s Service Center at 5962 Hwy. 165 in Ravenel is listed as an unmanned recycling drop site. Staffed convenience centers nearby include Hollywood, on Highway 165, and Adams Run, at 8776 Old Jacksonboro Rd. Proof of residency is required. The C&D zone takes wood or lumber only under 48 inches. No shingles, bricks, cement, or stucco. Commercial businesses may drop off household recyclables only: no C&D, trash, or yard waste. Since November 1, 2024, double-axle trailers, box trucks, and moving vans need an advance appointment.9

Do not stage the pile in the yard. Ravenel’s code, Sec. 20-120(b), forbids letting solid waste pile up on any lot in town. Its definition of solid waste includes building and demolition materials and fallen trees. The Code Inspector enforces the town code.10

Jobs we haul in Ravenel

  • Roof tear-offs. The county C&D zone does not accept shingles.9
  • Remodels. Lumber has to be under 4 feet for the county C&D zone.9
  • Concrete and brick. The C&D zone does not accept bricks or cement either.9
  • Yard waste. Fallen trees count as solid waste under the town code, and solid waste cannot pile up on your lot.10

Nothing higher than the top rail. Heavy material like shingles, concrete, or brick may need a reduced fill. Not sure about the pile? Text a photo. What stays out: what can go in a dumpster.

How it works

Infill. Exfill. Landfill.

  1. 01 Infill

We drop it. You load it.

Call or text the address, what you are tossing, and the day. Same day in most cases. Trae, a veteran, sets it on free driveway boards. You get 7 days. Keep it level with the top rail.

  2. 02 Exfill

    We haul it out.

Call or text when it is full or your 7 days are up. We pull it and leave the driveway clear. Need more room? An extra haul is $300.

  3. 03 Landfill

    Weighed. Billed to the ticket.

It crosses a certified landfill scale. 2 tons are included. Past that, $85 per ton, prorated off the ticket. No guessing.
