The truck runs out of our yard at 105 Barrington Blvd in Goose Creek. Same price in Ansonborough, Harleston Village, Radcliffeborough, Wagener Terrace, or Hampton Park Terrace.

City limits run well past the peninsula. The City of Charleston also covers West Ashley, parts of James Island and Johns Island, Daniel Island, and parts of the Cainhoy area. Street or driveway

Driveway first. Driveway placement usually needs no permit, and city code pushes the same way: a dumpster may not go in the right-of-way if it can be sited on private property.⁠²

No driveway? A dumpster on a city street, sidewalk, parkway, or alley needs a dumpster permit from the Department of Traffic and Transportation before it goes down.⁠³ The code’s dumpster definition runs from 4 to 30 cubic yards, so a 15-yard roll-off counts.⁠⁴

• Apply through the City’s Customer Service portal under Traffic & Transportation Street Blocking. Allow up to two weeks.⁠⁵
• Fees under the schedule effective August 16, 2021, non-metered space: $18.50 review, $17.50 a day inspection, $10.00 a day for the dumpster. A metered space adds $18.00 per day per space.⁠⁶
• The box needs retro-reflective sheeting and barricades with flashing lights at each end, at all times.⁠⁷
• The City asks permit holders to notify residents at least three days before the start date.⁠⁸

Daniel Island adds its own rule. A May 9, 2025 POA notice says a dumpster in use must be kept in the driveway or the unit’s designated parking area.⁠¹²

What city trash pickup will not take

The City will not collect bricks, lumber, mortar, plaster, roofing, guttering, or tree debris made by a hired contractor or builder. Do the work yourself and it takes construction or renovation refuse only up to 90 gallons per collection cycle.⁠¹⁴ Single-family pickup also lists concrete, dirt, sod, sand, plaster, and carpet as unacceptable.⁠¹⁵

That gap is the roll-off’s job.
