Ridgeville is a small incorporated town with a mayor-council government, inside Dorchester County. Land outside the town limits is unincorporated Dorchester County until it is annexed.1 That line moves. The Town’s 2024 master plan names three planned developments, the Varn, Appleby and Welch tracts, that would expand the town limits.2

Street or driveway

Driveway first. It usually needs no permit, and the driveway guide covers the setup.

The main roads here are state roads. The county’s Ridgeville/Givhans plan says Highway 78, Highway 61, Highway 27, Carter Road, Ridge Road and Highway 17-A are two-lane rural roads owned and maintained by SCDOT.3 The Town’s 2023 comprehensive plan update lists School Street as SC-173 and Church Street as SC-27.4 SCDOT encroachment permits are free and filed online through EPPS Next. SCDOT Dorchester Maintenance is at 5225 East Jim Bilton Boulevard, St. George, (843) 563-3451.4

The shoulder counts. SC Code § 57-7-210 makes it unlawful to willfully place obstructions on any highway, and the highway includes the whole right-of-way, shoulders and parking areas too. A fine up to $100 a day, up to 30 days in jail, or both. The statute does not mention dumpsters or permits.5

Side road maintained by the county? Dorchester County Code Sec. 38-21 limits encroachment permits for construction over, under or across county streets and property to a public purpose, convenience or necessity, or utility provision.6 Dorchester County Public Works is at (843) 832-0070, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.7

Not sure who owns your road? SCDOT points you to its free Street Finder at ris.scdot.org.8 Dorchester is county 18 in SCDOT numbering, so a road marked S-18-xxx is a state secondary road.9 Ridgeville Town Hall is at 105 School Street, (843) 871-7960.4

If a permit is needed, you get it. We do not apply for you. The Dorchester County permit page and the SCDOT state road permit page have the full rundown.

Curbside and the county sites

Inside town limits, the Town contracts trash and recycling to an outside company and lists Republic Services at 843-552-4751. Most trash and debris that is properly bundled or contained can go to the curb on regular garbage days.10 A gutted kitchen is a lot of bundles.

Only five county convenience sites take homeowner construction and demolition debris: Old Fort (Oakbrook), St. George (Hwy 78), Sandy Pines, Bucks (Knightsville) and Givhans. Contractors and businesses may not dump there.11 No vehicle bigger than a 3/4-ton pickup. No trailer bigger than single-axle. No pickup-and-trailer combos.12 The sites take Dorchester County residential waste only, may ask for proof of residency, and close Wednesdays and Sundays.13

A roll-off sits on your driveway for 7 days. You load it. We haul it. Landfill options are in the Charleston-area landfill guide.

Jobs we haul in Ridgeville

  • Remodels. The Town’s master plan notes many older historic homes in town that need renovation.14
  • Roofing. Contractor dumping at the county sites is banned. Violations are a misdemeanor, a fine up to $500, 30 days, or both.15 Shingles are heavy and may need reduced fill.
  • Yard waste. County sites take leaves, shrubs and limbs up to 4 feet long at Miles Jamison or Sandy Pines. No stumps. No contractor yard debris.16

Load to the top rail, no higher. Not sure what can go in? Read what you can put in a dumpster, or text a photo of the pile.

Ridgeville questions

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Ridgeville?

On your driveway, usually not. Highway 78, 61 and 27, Carter Road, Ridge Road and 17-A are SCDOT roads, so call SCDOT Dorchester Maintenance at (843) 563-3451 before a dumpster goes on the shoulder; county roads go to Dorchester County Public Works at (843) 832-0070. The SCDOT encroachment permit is free, and you get any permit, not us.

How much is a dumpster rental in Ridgeville?

$499 flat for a 15-yard roll-off: delivery, 7 days, up to 2 tons of disposal, and pickup. Over 2 tons, it is $85 per ton, prorated by certified scale weight. Extra days are $10 per day.

Will Ridgeville trash pickup take my debris?

Inside town limits, the Town contracts trash pickup and lists Republic Services at 843-552-4751. Most trash and debris that is properly bundled or contained can go to the curb on your regular day. Ask Republic before you stack a whole room at the road.

Can I take construction debris to the Givhans convenience site instead?

If you are a Dorchester County homeowner, Givhans is one of five county sites that take construction and demolition debris. Nothing bigger than a 3/4-ton pickup, no trailer bigger than single-axle, no pickup-and-trailer combos, and the sites are closed Wednesdays and Sundays. Contractors and businesses may not dump there.

How it works

Infill. Exfill. Landfill.

  1. 01 Infill

We drop it. You load it.

Call or text the address, what you are tossing, and the day. Same day in most cases. Trae, a veteran, sets it on free driveway boards. You get 7 days. Keep it level with the top rail.

  2. 02 Exfill

    We haul it out.

Call or text when it is full or your 7 days are up. We pull it and leave the driveway clear. Need more room? An extra haul is $300.

  3. 03 Landfill

    Weighed. Billed to the ticket.

It crosses a certified landfill scale. 2 tons are included. Past that, $85 per ton, prorated off the ticket. No guessing.
