Dumpster rental in Hollywood

The truck runs out of our yard at 105 Barrington Blvd in Goose Creek. Most Hollywood addresses mail as 29449. Poplar Grove and a few other pockets use a Ravenel 29470 address. Same truck, same $499.
Hollywood is its own town, with a mayor and town council. Town Hall is at 5150 Highway 165. Charleston County still runs some services residents use, including the Hollywood Convenience Center. The town code says the town uses the county’s building inspection service.1
Street or driveway
Driveway first. Driveway placement usually needs no permit. Setup tips: dumpster in your driveway.
Off the driveway, know who owns the road. Charleston County’s street layer lists no town-maintained streets inside Hollywood. Highway 162, Highway 165, Baptist Hill Rd, Savannah Hwy, Manor Rd, Pineland Rd and Toogoodoo Rd are all coded STATE. Many streets in town are coded PRIVATE. That makes SCDOT the right-of-way owner for most public-street placements here.2
State roads. An SCDOT encroachment permit is the request for permission to work in SCDOT-maintained right-of-way. SCDOT charges no fee for it.3 Ask SCDOT whether your dumpster needs one. The Charleston maintenance office is (843) 740-1655, at 2401 Maintenance Way in North Charleston.4 SCDOT strongly encourages a preliminary meeting with County or District staff before you apply online through EPPS Next.5 Steps: SCDOT state road dumpster permits.
Not sure it is a state road? SCDOT points you to its free Street Finder at ris.scdot.org or 1-855-GO-SCDOT.6 A route marked S-10-xxx is a state secondary road in Charleston County.7
Not state, not private? Charleston County Public Works issues encroachment permits for an encroachment in a public right-of-way or easement. The application fee is $35.00. Phone: (843) 202-7600.8 Steps: Charleston County dumpster permits.
Private roads. Ask whoever maintains the road before the truck shows up.
The permit is yours to get. We do not apply for it.
What the Hollywood drop-off will not take
Charleston County runs the Hollywood Convenience Center at 5305 Highway 165. Its C&D area takes residents’ furniture, drywall, carpet, and lumber under 4 feet. No roofing shingles. No brick, cement, or stucco.9
It is residents only. Bring proof of Charleston County residency. Contractors may not use it.10 A contractor job in Hollywood needs its own debris plan.
Do not stage the pile in the yard while you figure it out. Hollywood’s property-maintenance code, Sec. 22-20, treats built-up litter and debris on a property as a violation.11
Jobs we haul in Hollywood
Each one runs into a limit at the Hollywood drop-off or in the town code.
- Roof tear-offs. The Hollywood C&D area takes no shingles.9 Shingles are heavy. Tell us the squares and the layers.
- Remodels. If a contractor does the work, the county center is off limits.10 Altering or demolishing a building? The town code requires a building permit first, applied for through the town. The town’s homepage links permits to CC&I Services.12
- Concrete and brick. Brick and cement are on the not-accepted list.9 Heavy material may need a reduced fill.
- Cleanouts. Built-up litter and debris on a property is a code violation.11 Load the box, not the yard.
Nothing higher than the top rail. Not sure about the pile? Text a photo. What stays out is on what can go in a dumpster.

Hollywood questions
Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Hollywood?
On your driveway, usually not. On a public street it is usually SCDOT's call, since the county's street layer lists no town-maintained streets in Hollywood and codes Highway 162, Highway 165 and Baptist Hill Rd as state roads. Ask SCDOT's Charleston maintenance office at (843) 740-1655 whether your dumpster needs its no-fee encroachment permit, which you get, not us.
How much is a dumpster rental in Hollywood?
$499 flat for a 15-yard roll-off: delivery, 7 days, up to 2 tons of disposal, and pickup. Over 2 tons is $85 per ton, prorated by certified scale weight, and extra days are $10 per day. Same price whether your address reads Hollywood 29449 or Ravenel 29470.
Can I take my old roof to the Hollywood Convenience Center?
No. The center's C&D area at 5305 Highway 165 takes residents' furniture, drywall, carpet and lumber under 4 feet, but not shingles, brick, cement or stucco. Contractors may not use county convenience centers at all, and residents must show proof of Charleston County residency.
Can I pile cleanout debris in the yard until I haul it off?
Do not let it build up. Hollywood's property-maintenance code, Sec. 22-20, treats built-up litter and debris on a property as a violation. Load a container as you go.
