Remodel dumpster rental for kitchens and bathrooms
One 15-yard roll-off usually holds a single-room tear-out. On a gut job, drywall and mixed debris reach the 2 tons included well before the box is full.
Mon-Fri 6am-5pm, Sat 7am-12pmA 15-yard remodel dumpster usually holds a single-room kitchen or bathroom tear-out in one box. On a gut job, weight runs out before space does, so plan around the 2 tons included, not the size of the box.
$499 flat covers delivery, 7 days, up to 2 tons (4,000 lbs) of disposal, and pickup. The box holds 15 cubic yards, which is 405 cubic feet. Past 2 tons, it is $85 per ton, billed off the certified landfill scale ticket. Every rate is on the 15-yard dumpster rental page.
What comes out of a kitchen or bath
- Cabinets, counters, and vanities
- Drywall and plaster
- Flooring: vinyl, laminate, tile, and wood
- Lumber, trim, and doors
Toilets, sinks, and tubs are not on the prohibited list. Liquids are. Drain tanks and traps before anything goes in.
Break cabinets down. Lay flat pieces flat. Load to the top rail and no higher.
How much a remodel dumpster holds by weight
Drywall. EPA lists clean gypsum board and painted or demolition gypsum each at 467 lb per cubic yard. 1 4,000 divided by 467 is about 8.6 cubic yards. That is a little over half the box. A box of drywall loaded to the rail would run about 7,005 lbs, roughly 3.5 tons.
Mixed gut-job debris. EPA lists mixed construction and demolition debris at 417 lb per cubic yard. 2 4,000 lbs of it is about 9.6 cubic yards, just under two-thirds of the box. Loaded to the rail, it comes to about 6,255 lbs, about 3.1 tons.
Wood. EPA lists clean dimensional lumber, painted or stained wood, and treated wood each at 169 lb per cubic yard, and clean engineered wood at 268. 3 A full box of lumber or trim is about 2,535 lbs, well under 2 tons. A full box of engineered wood is about 4,020 lbs, just past the 4,000 lbs included.
Tile, plaster, mortar, and stone counters. These add weight fast. Mixed into a gut job, they push the box to 2 tons sooner. Heavy materials may require reduced fill levels, so the box may be done below the rail.
Those are EPA conversion factors, not your scale ticket. Every load is weighed at the disposal facility and billed by certified scale weight. Run your mix through the dumpster rental cost estimator before you book.
Curbside pickup will not take a remodel
Do not plan on the trash truck. Five local governments, five limits.
- City of Charleston. The City lists construction and renovation debris, plaster, and carpet as unacceptable in routine single-family collection. 4 Under City Ordinance Sec. 14-51, it will not collect bricks, lumber, mortar, plaster, or roofing generated by a hired contractor or builder. 5 It does collect construction or renovation refuse generated only by an owner or resident, up to 90 gallons per trash collection cycle. 5
- Summerville. Code Sec. 12-99 says the Town does not pick up construction debris. 6
- Mount Pleasant. The Town cannot collect contractor-generated remodeling debris and says the contractor should haul it away. 7
- North Charleston. The City collects at most 90 gallons of building materials per pickup. 8 Bulk trash must be set out in separate piles by category, and mixed piles are not collected. 8
- Goose Creek. Code Sec. 93.076 excludes shingles, bricks, concrete, and rocks from city collection. 9 Debris a contractor generates must be removed by the contractor by the end of each work week. 9
For scale: 405 cubic feet at 7.48 gallons per cubic foot is about 3,030 gallons. One 15-yard box holds about 34 of those 90-gallon pickups.
What stays out of a remodel load
The binding list is our prohibited and restricted materials policy. These come up most on remodels.
- Paint, stain, and sealant that is liquid or partly liquid. Prohibited. SC DES says residents may put latex paint in household trash once it is dry, and that most experts recommend sending unwanted oil-based paint through a household hazardous waste program or event. 10 Ask before a dry can goes in the box.
- Solvents and thinners. Prohibited. SC Regulation 61-107.19 bars liquid waste such as paint and paint thinner from Class Two (C&D) landfills. 11
- Spray cans. Aerosols are pressurized containers. Prohibited.
- Asbestos. Prohibited.
- The old fridge. Refrigerators, freezers, and any appliance holding refrigerant are prohibited. Under EPA’s Clean Air Act Section 608 rules, the final person in the disposal chain, such as a scrap metal recycler or landfill owner, must ensure refrigerant is recovered from household refrigerators, freezers, and window air conditioners before final disposal. 12
- Range, dishwasher, water heater, microwave. Ask first. SC Code Section 44-96-200 prohibits knowingly including white goods, which include ranges, dishwashers, and water heaters, with municipal solid waste bound for an MSW landfill. 13 SC Regulation 61-107.19 also bars electronic equipment, including microwave ovens, from Class Two (C&D) landfills. 11 Electronics go in only with our explicit approval.
Restricted materials need approval before delivery. Prohibited material can get the load refused, and you pay the cleanup and special disposal. If you are unsure about a can or an appliance, text a photo of the pile to (843) 284-3707.
Where the box sits
Driveway placement usually needs no permit. Street placement may need one, and getting it is on you. The driveway dumpster guide covers placement. If the street is the only spot, check the dumpster permit guides for your town before you book.
Extra days and extra hauls
If the job runs past 7 days, extra days are $10 per day. If the debris outgrows one box, an additional haul is $300. If you already know the job is that big, say so when you book.
Next step
Call or text (843) 284-3707 with the address, what you are tossing, and the day you need it. Mention tile, plaster, or stone counters up front. Or request a quote online.
Questions we get
What size dumpster do I need for a kitchen remodel?
A single kitchen tear-out usually fits in one 15-yard roll-off. Weight runs out before space: at EPA's conversion factor, about 8.6 cubic yards of drywall reaches the 4,000 lbs included. Mention tile, plaster, or stone counters when you book.
Can you put drywall in a dumpster?
Yes, but it is dense. EPA lists gypsum board at 467 lb per cubic yard, so about 8.6 cubic yards of it reaches the 4,000 lbs included. Past 2 tons, it is $85 per ton off the certified scale ticket.
Can I throw old kitchen appliances in a dumpster?
Not a refrigerator, freezer, or anything else holding refrigerant. Those are prohibited. For a range, dishwasher, or microwave, call or text (843) 284-3707 and get an answer before delivery.
Will the city pick up my bathroom remodel debris?
Do not count on it. Summerville does not pick up construction debris, and North Charleston collects at most 90 gallons of building materials per pickup. The City of Charleston lists construction and renovation debris as unacceptable in routine single-family collection, though under Sec. 14-51 it does collect renovation refuse generated only by an owner or resident, up to 90 gallons per trash collection cycle.
Can you put paint cans in a dumpster?
Not if the paint is liquid or partly liquid. Paints, stains, and sealants in that state are prohibited. SC DES says residents may put latex paint in household trash once it is dry, but ask us before any can goes in the box.
